Grofe, Ferde

Ferde Grofe(1892-1972), American composer and pianist, studied music from his mother and brother, played viola for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted a concert for his works at Carnegie Hall, won an Academy Award for his film score "Minstrel Man"(1944), he composed 20 orchestral tone poems(Grand canyon suite), a ballets, film scores, and chamber music.
